Pecos eliminates Bulldogs, 12-1, in Legion tourney

LEAGUE CITY, Texas-The Bulldogs' season came to an abrupt end Friday.

Pecos limited Guaranty Bank and Trust Texarkana's bats to just three hits as it run-ruled the Bulldogs 12-1 in an American Legion state tournament elimination game at Clear Creek's Mallory Field.

Pecos jumped out to a 3-0 lead after one frame on three hits and two Texarkana errors.

In the second and with an Outlaw runner on second, the Bulldogs' Lavert Paxton had an unassisted double play when he jumped high into the air to catch a blooper and tagged the runner out at second.

After a pair of walks, a reach on a fielder's choice and a single, Pecos tacked on two more runs. Texarkana went down in order in the second, and the Outlaws led 5-0.

Pecos tallied four runs in the third on three hits and took a commanding 9-0 lead. The Bulldogs got a pair of base runners after back to back walks but could not get any runs across.

Paxton walked to lead off the sixth, advanced to second on a passed ball, and landed on third after a groundout. The Outlaws' pitcher balked, and Paxton scored the Bulldogs' only run.

The top hitter for Texarkana was Paxton, who went 2 for 2 with a double, a single, and two walks.

Hayden Hackett, who came in to pitch for the Bulldogs in the fourth, had no earned runs and gave up just one hit.
