Hill's walk-off blast lifts Twins over Victoria

Down to their last at-bat, the Texarkana Twins swung for the fences.

With the Victoria Generals holding onto a 3-1 lead going into the bottom of the ninth inning, Texarkana rallied for two tying runs before Cam Hill launched a walk-off, two-run home run to give the Twins a 5-3 victory to punch their playoff ticket on Friday night at George Dobson Field in Spring Lake Park.

Texarkana enters next week's postseason play with another game against the Generals. The first-round matchup will be a one-game, winner-take-all series, which will begin at 7:30 p.m. in Victoria, Texas.

Tanner Sparks and Hunter Church helped set up the Twins' rally. Sparks led off the ninth inning with a single and Church followed with a walk to put the first two batters on the bag. Gunner Halter advanced the two with a fielder's choice and an error by the Generals scored Sparks and Church to knot the score at 3.

Texarkana put the first run on the board in the third inning when Jaylon Keys belted an RBI-double to the right-center gap in the third inning to score Coltyn Kessler, who reached on a walk, to take an early 1-0 lead.

The Generals, however, answered back quickly in the fourth to tie the game, and added more runs in the fourth, fifth and eighth innings to take a 3-1 lead going into the final frame.

Jack Christian pitched six solid innings for the Twins, giving up only two runs. Ryan Collins came in relief, allowing just one run and Jesus Gamez-who posted the win-was brought in the ninth and did not allow a hit.

If Texarkana defeats the Generals on Wednesday in the first round, it will go on to the championship game to play the winner of the Brazos Valley Bombers-Acadiana Cane Cutters matchup, with the first game of the series at George Dobson Field.
