Whitekiller claims lead

Trent Whitekiller shot a 4-under-par 67 during the second round of the APT Texarkana Open to climb into sole possession of first place.

Whitekiller, playing at Northridge Country Club on Thursday, after his 4-under 68 at Texarkana Country Club Wednesday, is 8-under-one stroke ahead of five others heading into today's third round.

The third and fourth rounds will be played at TCC.

Whitekiller birdied No. 1, bogeyed 3, then carded birdies on Nos. 4, 11, 12 and 14.

Roman Robledo shot 68 to remain in second place at 136, along with Scottie Scheffler, Austin Smotherman, Joshua Creel and first-round co-leader Ryan Zech.

Texas High graduate and former University of Texas-Arlington standout Zack Fischer climbed from 28th to seventh at 137 with his 6-under 65 at Northridge. Fischer is tied with Jace Long and Justin McKay.

Garrett May, another Texas High graduate and current Baylor player, made the cut as an amateur. May is tied for 15th at 139, just four strokes off the lead.

Sean Romero, a Pleasant Grove graduate, also made the cut with a 5-under 67 at TCC with a two-day 142.

Trumann Nugent shot even par and missed the cut by one shot with a 2-round 143. Grayson Jones, also an amateur, and Art Romero also missed the cut.
