Female runner wins third straight

Tia Stone, 39, wins local half-marathon

She did it again.

Tia Stone, a 39-year-old mother of four children, captured her third straight women's overall title Sunday morning in the 11th annual Run the Line half-marathon.

The Searcy, Ark., runner, who placed fourth overall, completed the 13.1-mile course in 1 hour, 25 minutes, 46 seconds.

"This race is like a good practice run for me." said Stone, who will be running in the Little Rock Marathon in two weeks for the third straight year.

Nathan Hall, 33, Monroe, La., was the overall winner with a time of 1:17.45, with Brian Sieczkowski, 39, Maumelle, Ark., second, 1:18.11, and Cameron Beckett, 27, Little Rock, third at 1:18.21.

Sieczkowski and Beckett are members of the Little Rock Running Club, which was well-represented with many other runners.

This was Hall's first time to officially run a half-marathon.

"I've run the distance several times in practice, so this is my best time." said Hall, who has run in three marathons.

Finishing second in the women's division and 10th overall was Kaytlyn Sweatman, a 16-year-old sophomore at Pleasant Grove. She had a time of 1:29.52.

"I ran this two years ago, and I think I finished second also," said Sweatman, who started running in the seventh grade.

"Sweatman, is a very good runner." Stone said. "And it may be soon that she'll overtake me."

Winning the two-person relay were seniors Grant Jarvis, Texas High, and Tyler Braswell, Arkansas High, with a time of 1:15.53. They also won last year with a time of 1:18.20.

Will Harrell, Texas High senior, who placed fourth overall last year with a time of 1:22.43, teamed up with Haley Efurd, Pittsburg, Texas., for a second place time of 1:32.21.

The four-person relay team of Christian Warriors were Micah Harp, Aaron Burkett, Chris Hollinsworth, and Ben Mayo with a time of 1:42.30.

The oldest of the more than 600 runners and walkers was 78-year-old Greg Bourns of Mena., Ark. This was eighth time Bourns has run in the race and finished with a time of 3:30.22. Winning the 75-79 age group was 76-year old Chris Biagini of Hot Springs Village with a 2:13.14.

Bourns has also run three Pikes Peak Marathons from 2005-07.

Don Still, Hope, Ark., was second in the Male seniors division (60-plus) with a time of 1:40.24.

Paula Perticone, Texarkana, won the Female seniors with a 2:06.45.

Kathy Stevens, Texarkana, was second in Grand Masters with a 1:47.40, and Joyce Cates, Maud, third in 1:48.32.

The half-marathon benefits the Partnership for Pathways which builds outdoor trails for walkers, runners and cyclists.

For the 11h straight year, the race was run under ideal conditions with temperatures in the upper 40s. The prediction of possible rain did not take place.

Joseph Kopecky, 2:14.16.

Female: 12-19: 1. Bradi Young, 2:07.02; 20-24: 3. Rachel Ford, 2:01.29; 30-34: 2. Meagan Garrison, 1:41;30; 60-64: 1. Patty Collier, 2:29.14, 3. Sherry Ford, 3:00.04.
