Pulpwood, Razorbacks, Titans winners on Day 2

Day 2 is in the books.

The Brandon Warren Memorial Tournament continued Saturday at George Dobson and Joe Blagg fields, setting up today's semifinals and championship contests.

Today's games will be played at Ed Worrell Memorial Park's Joe Blagg Field in Texarkana, Ark.

Pulpwood posted two early victories and the Farmers Bank Texarkana Razorbacks and Arkansas Titans also got wins.

 

Razorbacks 7, Titans 5

It's hard to lose when your offense is started early.

The Farmers Bank Texarkana Razorbacks defeated the Arkansas Titans in their first game on Day 2 of the Brandon Warren Memorial Tournament on Saturday afternoon at Joe Blagg Field.

Kyle Choate started on the bump for the Razorbacks. Choate went four innings, gave up four runs and four hits in the win.

The Razorbacks took an early lead when Braden Hlavinka drove in Miles Jones and Dylan Adcock drove in Adam Quinn to edge the Titans, 2-0.

In the bottom of the first inning, the Titans had runners in scoring position and the Razorbacks turned a 1-3-4 double play to get out of the jam.

The Titans answered back in the following inning on a errant throw to third base and also on a wild pitch to tie the game, 2-2.

Hlavinka gave the Razorbacks the lead in the following inning, stealing home on a wild pitch.

Keegan Rogers drove in Adcock and Wren Williams drove in Dakota Turner, both of sac fly balls to give the Razorbacks the edge, 5-2.

The Titans worked the hit and run perfectly in the bottom of the third, scoring two runs to cut into the Razorback lead, 5-4.

Turner driver in Jones and Rogers knocked in Hlavinka to add the Razorbacks lead over the Titans in the fourth, 7-4.

The Titans answered back in the bottom of the fifth, stealing home and a wild pitch to slice into the Razorbacks lead, 7-5.

The game was called due to the time limit in the sixth inning.

Razorsox 1

Arkansas Pulpwood coasted to a win over the Razorsox at George Dobson Field in Spring Lake Park.

Pulpwood went up first in the opening inning on a sacrifice RBI by Will Richardson that scored Mattie Aikens.

The Razorsox only run came in the second inning when Austin Stubber hit a double through centerfield to bring Wyatt Miller home. Miller had the only other Razorsox double and Riley Orr and Matthew Barrett both added a single.

Arkansas Pulpwood tacked on two more runs in the second frame. John Dawson scored on balk and Tim Crumpler scored on third base error.

After a stalemate in the third inning Pulpwood added two more runs in the fourth. The first came as Jameson Milner scored on a wild pitch after he stole third. The second was a a sacrifice RBI by Boyd to score Aikens.

Aikens scored the final run of the contest in the sixth inning by stealing home after a wild pitch.

Richardson, who went the distance on the mound for Pulpwood, threw five strikeouts, went three-up-three-down in three innings, and walked five Razorsox batters.

Pulpwood 9, Junior Razorbacks 5

Arkansas Pulpwood quieted the Texarkana Junior Razorbacks' seventh inning rally to win the second game of the American Legion tourney at George Dobson Field.

A sloppy forth inning resulted in Arkansas Pulpwood tallying up six runs to break the 3-3 knot.

Connor Wilkenson scored the first run of the onslaught on a forced walk. Will Richardson follwed with a single to right to score Mattie Aiken. Josh Winfield slammed a sacrifice RBI to score John Dawson. Reece Michels hit an RBI double down the first base line to bring Richardson back to home plate and then as salt in the wound Michels scored on a wild pitch.

In the final inning Braden Larey stole home on a wild pitch to spark a rally for the Razorbacks. David Burns, who had both of Texarkana's only hits, connected for a single to left and scored off an error to cut the deficit down to four. Dylan Rushing was able to get on base due to a first base error but three back to back fly outs locked up the win for Arkansas Pulpwood.

Smith was first to add a run to the board for Pulpwood in the second stanza with a RBI single to centerfield to score Scott Thomas Bratton. Aiken followed with a single to right that allowed Wilkens and Smith to score.

The Razorbacks's third inning rebuttal came from Burn's first hit, a single to left field, that scored Colby Books, a balk that moved LeGrand back to home, and a sacrifice fly by Covington to score Larey.

Mark Smith led Arkansas Pulpwood's hitters with a single, a double, and an RBI. Michels Contributed a double and an RBI, Aiken had a single and two RBI, and Dawson, Richardson, Winfield, Bratton, and Wilkerson each had a sing.

Titans 21, Prospects 2

Bumps in the road can be beneficial.

The Titans cruised past the Northeast Texas Prospects on Saturday at Joe Blagg Field.

Jeffery Williams started on the hill for the Titans. Williams went four innings, struck out two batters and gave up three hits in the win.

The Titans jumped out in front of the Prospects in the first inning, scoring four runs.

Jesus Minjurez drove in Justin Scott and Brady Prince for the game's first runs, to put the Titans up 2-0.

Minjurez led the Titans at the dish going 2 for 4 with four RBI and he also scored two runs in the rout.

Gage Harris drove in Minjurez and Jace Turner drove in Harris to put the Titans up, 4-0.

The Prospects answered back in the bottom of the first with two runs of their own.

Mills Manthei drove in John Turner and Deacon Patterson scored on a balk.

After the first inning, the Prospects had no answer for the Titans.

The Titans went on to score 17 runs, with a 11-run fourth inning to have the game called for run-rule.

Garrick Mayhan hit a 2-run homer in the fifth inning over the left field wall.

Mayhan finished his day going 1 for 4 with two RBI and he also scored a run for the Titans.

Friday's Late Games

Bulldogs 6, Pulpwood 4

The Texarkana Bulldogs defeated Camden's Arkansas Pulpwood, 6-4, in their first game Saturday evening.

There were four lead changes in the first three innings before the Bulldogs took it once for all in the the third when Wyatt Stavinoha stole home while the defense was distracted by an pickle between first and second base.

In the opening frame Bryan Moore hit a single down the third base line to start things off for the Bulldogs. Tristen Brooks followed with a well placed bunt to advance the runners and Moore broke the ice for Texarkana, scoring in the first inning off a wild pitch.

Arkansas Pulpwood answered in the top of the second inning with an RBI single from Jameson Milner to bring in Reese Michels and a steal home on a wild pitch from Josh Winfield.

The Bulldogs one-upped their guest in the bottom of the second by tacking on two runs of their own on a single hit, a line drive down the middle by Connor Allred that scored TJ Krause and Slayton Holland who both got on base after hitting a single apiece.

The contest knotted at three in the third when Will Richardson hit a sacrifice RBI that allowed Mattie Aiken to cross home-plate.

After Stavinoha broke the tie, the Bulldogs defense kept Arkansas Pulpwood off home plate and forced a three-up-three-down in the top of the fourth.

The only double of the first contest came from the Bulldogs' Brooks in the bottom of the fourth, a floater that dropped in centerfield and scored another run by Moore. Brooks and More repeated this on a single from Brooks in the fifth.

Moore finished the first game with three hits on four at bats, and three runs scored to lead the Bulldogs. Allred complemented with two hits and two RBI and Brooks with a single, a double and two RBI.

Arkansas Pulpwood's final run came in the fifth stanza when Sam Philley got the forced walk home.

Philley led the visitors with two singles. Aiken, Boyd Cole, Michels, Winfield, and Milner had a single each. Richardson had the only RBI for Arkansas Pulpwood.

Razorsox 8, Bulldogs 6

In the second game of the evening the Bulldogs fell short, 8-6, to the Razorsox after extra innings.

The Bulldogs played from behind but were always right on the heals of their opponent.

The contest saw four knots, one in the first at three, one in the second at four, one in the fourth at five, and the last in the seventh at six.

It was Allred who knocked a single through right field that gave Moore an opportunity to score the run that pushed the game into extra innings.

In the eighth, however, a costly error and a critical two RBI double by Beau Burson gave the lead, an ultimately the win, back to the Razorsox.

The visitor's opened the game with two hits: a single by Ellisor and a two on, 3 RBI homer by Parker Ribble to make it 3-0.

Texarkana responded in the same inning with Krause hitting a two RBI double over right field and Lyles making a mad dash home on a lose ball; 3-3.

The two teams were nearly even from the mound. The Razorsox's pitching threw 20 first pitch strikes during the contest and the Bulldogs only one less. Both pitching teams threw nine strikeouts.

Frame two resulted in each team giving up a single run. Swecker got home for the Razorsox on an error and Chris Sutton hit an RBI double to score Lyles.

In the third the guest took a one run lead on a walk with bases loaded and forced a three-up-three-down in the bottom of the inning.

The fourth had the teams trading roles with the Bulldogs scoring a run off a sacrifice RBI by Sutton to knot the game at five and the Razorsox being kept at bay.

After both teams went three-up-three-down in the fifth the Razorsox broke the tie in the sixth when Ribble hit a single to left field that brought home Logan Vidrine.

In the final inning of regulation Moore got on first after an error. Allred moved Moore the rest of the way around the bags by hitting a single over to left field; the final knot at six before Burson's two BRI single in the eighth.

Moore Lead the Bulldogs hitting for game two with two singles, two RBI, and two runs scored. Lyles finished with three singles and two runs scored, Sutton had one double, a run scored and two RBI, Krause had a single and a double and two RBI, Allred had a single and an RBI, and Jacoby Ross and Stavinoha had a single each.

Razorbacks 11, Prospects 2

The Farmers Bank Texarkana Razorbacks jumped out early in the nightcap, scoring five runs in the first inning.

"We had a good first two innings in our first game of the season," Razorbacks head coach Carlton Bailey said. "When it came to our approaches at the plate, it looked like our first game of the season. Dakota Turner had a bases clearing double and Braden Hlavinka added a double, which was huge for us.

"For this to be the first game of the season, it was a pretty good warmup. As the season goes along, we expect to see a lot better talent throughout the year."

Chris Cowan started on the hill for Razorbacks. Cowan went five innings, struck out four batters and gave up four hits in the win.

Turner led the Razorbacks at the dish, going 2 for 3 with a double and four RBI and also scored a run in the rout.
