Area athletes place high in decathlon

Many local and area athletes have excelled in various high school sports, and six have recently shown their versatility and ability in other areas as they placed in the top 15 at the 55th annual high school decathlon Wednesday and Thursday at Cabot High School's Panther Stadium.

Ashdown's Tre Green placed second with 5,872 points for the 1o events, and Adrian Block of Prescott was a close third at 5,864. Green's reported 5954 total in Friday's paper was in error.

Block was the winner of the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 15.48.

Haze Farmer, Lake Hamilton junior, was the overall winner with a total of 5,970. He was the overall Class 6A pole vault champion with a 17 -0, and his 16-5 1/4 for 913 points Thursday helped propel him to the decathlon title.

It was his pole vault score, and a 4.46 in the 1500-meter run proved to be the difference over Green and Block.

Green and Block only managed to clear 9-2 1/4 in the pole vault.

Finishing sixth out of 69 competitors was Tanner Manasco of De Queen with a total of 5,563, and Remington Bearden was ninth with a 5,345.
