High school rodeo finals continue today

The Southwest Arkansas High School Rodeo Association's 15th annual rodeo finals at the Texarkana fairgrounds started Friday and continue today at 4 p.m.

The competition today will feature the top 15 athletes in bull riding, chute dogging, goat tying, steer riding, barrel racing, breakaway, tie down, ribbon roping, pole bending and team roping.

Athletes from Arkansas, Texas, Louisiana and Oklahoma will descend upon the fairgrounds to vie for prizes, buckles, saddles and scholarships.

The association has 150 members from the Ark-La-Tex area that compete in 16 rodeos starting in September and culminating with the finals in May. The competitors are between 5-18 years old.

Admission is $5 at the gate. Children ages five and under get in free. For more information about the organization visit swahsra.org.
