Twins fall to Bombers in season opener, 6-4

It's summer baseball time in the city.

The Texarkana Twins hosted the Brazos City Bombers for opening night, and the Twins fell in the first game of a two-game series, 6-4, at George Dobson Field on Friday.

Pleasant Grove graduate Tyler Jeans started on the bump for the Twins. Jeans went five innings, struck out four batters and gave up four hits in his first start of the year.

Gunnar Halter scored the first run of the season for the Twins, swiping home plate after the Bombers catcher made an arrant throw to second base.

Hudson Hopkins started the second inning with a double off the wall for the Twins.

Dylan Ditzenberger drove in Hopkins to give the Twins the edge, 2-0.

Hopkins finished his night going 2 for 4 with a double, scoring a run and Ditzenberger finished his first game with a single and RBI.

The Twins turned a 3-6 double-play early in the top of the third inning, before the Bombers batters begin to rattle Jeans.

Robin Adames drove in Bennet Inoff for the Bombers first run of the contest.

Nick Thornquist drove in Dylan Bonhert on a safety squeeze to tie the game for the Bombers, 2-2.

Each hitters worked the opposing teams pitching, but neither squad could capitalize off the missed opportunities.

Matt McDonald led the Twins at the dish going 2 for 3 with a triple, single and also scored a run.

Christian Sepulveda gave Brazos City the lead when he drove in Adames and Sam McElreath.

Cody LeCompte started on the bump for the Bombers. LeCompte went four innings, gave up two runs and three hits to the Twins.

Joseph Craig drove in Matt McDonald on a sacrifice fly ball into foul territory to extend the Brazos City lead.

The Bombers added two more runs at the top of the seventh inning to edge the Twins, 6-3.

The Twins were unable to answer back to the Brazos City lead.

Hopkins drove in Craig for the Twins in the bottom of the ninth inning to cut into the Bombers lead, 6-4, but it was not enough.
