After a three-year absence, the annual Four States Triathon resumes on Sunday morning, April 28, with a few changes.
Instead of being held at Wright Patman Lake, the new site will be at Bringle Lake.
The three-tier event consists of a 650-yard swim, 14-mile bike ride, and a 3-mile run. The bike portion in the past was 13 miles.
Returning to defend his title will be Grant Jarvis, a former Texas High runner, and now at Rice University in Houston. He finished the event in 2016 with a time of just under one hour.
As of Saturday morning, there were very few entries.
"I'm really disappointed," said race director Mike Riley. "I thought after a long absence, we would have a better turnout. So far we've had less than 30 entries. In other years we've had over a hundred."
"We've had some top-notch triathletes in the past, and hopefully they'll return," Riley added.
In addition to the individual event, three-person relay teams can participate with each doing one of the three stages.
