Bulldogs sweep Badgers in double bill

Texarkana double dipped.

The American Legion Bulldogs swept Arkadelphia in a doubleheader, 4-1 and 6-1, on Tuesday at George Dobson Field.

Cross Holder was the winning pitcher in the first game, while teammate Hunter Allen earned the victory in the night cap.

 

Game 1

Bulldogs 4, Badgers 1

Texarkana rallied for three runs in the fourth and defeated the Arkadelphia, 4-1, in the first game of an American Legion doubleheader at George Dobson Field on Tuesday.

Starting Bulldog pitcher Cross Holder earned the win, threw five innings, struck out eight, allowed a run on three hits, and walked one.

Relief pitcher Braydon Ross pitched two innings in relief of Holder, struck out three and allowed just one hit.

Going into the fourth, the Bulldogs had two hits; a single from Marzavin Riles in the first frame, and Chris Lyles' single in the third.

Chris Sutton and Zane Cox hit back to back singles for Texarkana in the fourth.  Keaton Russo's sacrifice fly brought in Sutton to make it 1-0.  T.J. Krause hit an RBI single to left center to give the Bulldogs a 2-0 lead.

Ethan Brooks smacked a triple to right field to score Krause to pad Texarkana's lead, 3-0.

Arkadelphia responded in the fifth on Wil Hixon's RBI ground out to score Sammy Hawthorn, who had singled.

Russo slapped an RBI single to left to score Sutton, who reached on an error, to give the Bulldogs a 4-1 advantage in the sixth.

The Badgers stranded four runners, while Texarkana stranded two.

Game 2

Bulldogs 6, Badgers 1

Starting Texarkana pitcher Hunter Allen earned the win, threw three innings, struck out four, allowed a run on three hits, and walked one.

Relief pitcher Cooper Perry tossed two innings, struck out ??, 

Bryan Moore skied a sacrifice fly to right field to score Lyles, who had walked, to give Texarkana an early 1-0 lead.

Dakota Frachiseur, who had walked and moved up to third on a series of wild pitches, scored on a wild pitch to make it 2-0.  Lyles, who drew a walk, scored on a wild pitch to pad the Bulldogs' lead, 3-0, in the second.

Sammy Hawthorn hit an RBI single over the second baseman's head to give Arkadelphia its first run.

Zane Cox loaded the bases when he walked with an out in the fourth.  Russo flied out in foul territory, but Moore, who had walked, tagged and scored to give the Bulldogs a 4-1 lead.

A Badger throwing error on a ground ball by Krause scored Riles, who had a bunt single, and Cox.  The runs gave Texarkana a 6-1 advantage going into the top of the fifth, the final inning.

Arkadelphia starting pitcher Shawn Lingo struggled with his control on the hill, absorbed the loss, tossed two innings, gave up three runs on no hits, walked six batters, and hit a batter.
