District to honor two distinguished alumni

Texarkana Independent School District will honor two 1970 graduates, Carl Finch and Melanie Kusin Rowe, during 2016 Distinguished Alumni events on Friday.

A Student Leadership Breakfast will be held at 9 a.m. in the Dan Haskins Student Center, and a Distinguished Alumni Luncheon will be held at 11:30 a.m. at the Texarkana Country Club.

Carl Finch

Carl Finch is a world-renowned musician with the polka/rock/worldbeat band Brave Combo, which has been featured in many magazines, movies and television shows since its formation in 1979. The group has released more than 40 albums and has received seven Grammy nominations, with two wins—one in 2000 for "Polkasonic" and the latest in 2005 for "Let's Kiss."

Finch earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Graphic Design and Advertising Art from the University of North Texas in 1975, and a Master of Fine Arts degree in Drawing and Painting in 1978.

Melanie Kusin Rowe is the vice chairman, Board & CEO Services for Korn Ferry International in New York. She has completed CEO searches for global markets, Fortune 500 companies, and others. She's also written articles on CEO succession and their relationships with their boards of directors. In addition, Kusin Rowe regularly speaks on issues including retailing trends, leadership for national trade associations and the investment community. She was profiled in "The Global 200 Guide to the Top Recruiters in the World."

She earned an undergraduate degree in English Literature from the Sophie Newcombe College at Tulane University and a Master of Business Administration in marketing and finance from Tulane University's A.B. Freeman School of Business.
