The Pleasant Grove High School Robotics Team competed in the Texas Computer Association Area 8 Advanced Invention competition on Jan. 18. They placed first in Advanced Inventions for their invention of a flood warning system that senses rising water levels in flood zones for homes, including inland areas such as those around Texarkana that were affected when the Red River flooded a few years ago.

"They provided excellent marketing design, a prototype and a working robot," Coach and Sponsor Shelby Strawn stated in a press release. "The judges said they did a wonderful job communicating and presenting the design."

The team will advance in April to the TCEA state competition in Austin. They are under the direction of Shelby Strawn and robotics teacher Wacey Forga. The team is comprised of seniors Patrick McMillan (captain), Kadin Booker, Zachary Iglesia and Dillon Toler.
