Mother and baby die after her womb was cut open

NEW BOSTON, Texas - A pregnant 22-year-old woman has died after an assailant cut her baby from her womb Friday morning at a residence in New Boston, according to Bowie County officials.

The woman was approximately seven-and-a-half months pregnant and the infant did not survive. A female suspect was taken into custody today in Oklahoma.

At about 10:20 a.m. on Friday, New Boston Police responded to a 911 call about a deceased person in the 200 block of Austin Street, said Texas Department of Public Safety spokesman Gregg Williams in a news release issued late Friday. Upon arrival, a deceased woman was discovered inside a residence. The preliminary investigation indicated an unborn child had been removed from the victim's body.

A female suspect was later taken into custody by Oklahoma authorities; the child did not survive, Williams Said. At the request of the New Boston Police Department, the Texas Rangers are now investigating. Additional information will be released when it becomes available.

Multiple agencies are investigating including DPS, New Boston Police Department, Bowie County Sheriff's Office, and Texarkana Texas, Police Department.
