Nash council set to lower property tax rate starting Jan. 1

Nash city officials plan to cut the municipal property tax rate by two cents.
During the first of two property tax rate public hearings Monday, Mayor Robert Bunch announced that the City Council intends to cut the current municipal property tax rate down from 58 cents per $100 valuation on real property, to 56 cents per $100 valuation.
Nash City Administrator Doug Bowers said that the Nash Business Park has now managed to land more than 40 business tenants since the park opened up in the mid-to-late 1990s.
The added commercial property tax generated by the park is helping enable the city to now give residents a property tax rate cut, he added.
The new property tax rate is set to take effect Jan. 1.
