Firefighters worked for several hours early Monday to fight a blaze that destroyed the O'Farrell Community Building in Cass County.
The fire was reported at 5:55 a.m. Monday, said Capt. A.D. Point with the Douglassville, Texas, Fire Department.
Douglassville and Red Hill fire departments responded to the fire, Point said.
The Linden Fire Department and Cass County Emergency Services District 2 also responded to the blaze.
The building was on Farm to Market Road 995 between Red Hill and Atlanta, Texas. It was near a winery, O'Farrell Country Vineyards, but no other buildings were damaged.
Point said the community center was about 40 years old and was used for family reunions and weddings.
Investigators believe lightning from an early-morning storm struck a tree next to the building, and the building quickly became engulfed.
"It was a total loss. It was completely engulfed when we got on scene. It was pretty much gone," Point said.
Firefighters cleared the scene about 9:30 a.m. Monday.
