An elderly woman died early morning in a house fire Monday in Liberty-Eylau.
The victim was identified by the Bowie County Sheriff's Office as Kamellia Williamson, 82, of Texarkana, Texas. Neighbors called her "Kaye."
Firefighters were dispatched around 7 a.m. to 506 County Road 3287 (Eylau Loop Road) with reports of a woman trapped inside a burning house, according to officials. Williamson had apparently called 911 when her house caught on fire but was overcome by smoke while on the phone, officials said.
According to firefighters on the scene, they were not able to get the woman out in time.
The Liberty-Eylau Fire Department responded to the fire along with Wake Village and Texarkana, Texas, fire departments.
Neighbor Rodney Williams said he has lived next door to Williamson since 1960 when she and her husband built the house. He said she had kept to herself in recent years.
