Falling dresser, TV kill toddler in her bedroom

Ella Myers, 3, died from injuries received after a dresser and television fell on her in her bedroom, said Howard County, Ark., Sheriff Bryan McJunkins.

The Howard County Sheriff's Dispatch received a 911 call for an EMS ambulance needed at 8:18 p.m. Tuesday at a residence on Mission Drive in Nashville, Ark.

The call, concerning emergency assistance needed for a 3-year-old injured from a dresser and television falling on her, was transferred to the ambulance service. Howard County Deputy Dustin Wakefield also responded to the call.

"Ella's mother, Alicia Phillips, told EMS at the scene Ella was in her bed watching television when Alicia heard a crash come from Ella's room. When Alicia ran into the bedroom, she found a large, older style television and a dresser that the television was setting on had fallen on top of Ella's head and chest," McJunkins said.

Ella was taken by ambulance to Howard Memorial Hospital, where she was met by air ambulance and transferred to a Little Rock hospital.

"The Pulaski County Coroner's Office contacted Deputy Wakefield later and told him that Ella was pronounced dead by their office shortly before midnight as a result of her injuries," McJunkins said.

"This incident is very tragic and the Howard County Sheriff's Office offers our prayers to Ella's family," McJunkins said.
