De Queen police to take part in Click It or Ticket campaign

The De Queen, Ark., Police Department, along with other law enforcement agencies across Arkansas, will be stepping up enforcement of the state's seat belt law during the annual Click It or Ticket campaign.
The three-week campaign is conducted each year around the Memorial Day holiday, which is one of the most active travel periods for Arkansas motorists, acting De Queen Police Chief Scott Simmons said.
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, said nearly half of the 21,022 passengers killed in motor vehicle crashes during 2014 were not using a seat belt, he said.
"Arkansas state law requires all front seat passengers, not just drivers, to be properly buckled up. It requires all children less than 15 years of age to be properly secured in the vehicle. Children less than 6 years of age and weighing less than 60 pounds should be restrained in a child passenger safety seat. If the driver has a restricted license, all passengers in the vehicle must be properly buckled up," Simmons said.
The De Queen Police Department has been participating in Click It or Ticket for several years. Police may set up safety and sobriety check points during the campaign, depending on availability of officers, he said.
