Little River to host public hearing on losses from natural disasters

Little River County will host a public hearing June 10 to discuss ways to reduce loss of life and property losses due to natural disasters, Little River County Judge Mike Cranford said.

The hearing will be at 9 a.m. June 13 in the county annex building adjacent to the courthouse at 351 N. Second St. in Ashdown, Ark.

The goal of the hearing will be to devise a method to reduce hazards. The goals of the hazard mitigation plan include reducing loss of life and reducing property losses in the county because of natural disasters.

The hearing will also provide a framework to encourage all levels of government, public and private organizations to minimize potential disasters and use mitigation in the recovery from disasters. The county will prepare the plan and provide copies in Little River County.

"Little River County, neighboring communities, businesses, academic and other interested parties, agencies and persons are encourage to attend the meeting," Cranford said.
