Three nabbed in meth case

Three people remain in custody, accused of drug trafficking, after Little River County sheriff's deputies, Ashdown, Ark., police and the South-Central Drug Task Force discovered and seized about $140,000 worth of methamphetamine Aug. 5.

Ashdown Police Department officers stopped a Kia Spectra traveling on a city street.

Officers searched the vehicle and found more than 240 grams of methamphetamine. The driver of the vehicle, Clarence Johnson, 27, of Pine Bluff, was taken into custody, according to the sheriff's department's report.

Officers with the APD then contacted the Little River County Sheriff's Office and the drug task force. The investigation expanded, and officers secured a search warrant for the apartment where Johnson had stayed.

Law enforcement officers searched the apartment and found an additional 145 grams of crystal methamphetamine and 1,020 grams of liquid methamphetamine hidden in the structure.

Jerry Delony, 40, of Ashdown and Byann Blakeney, 38, of Big Sandy, Texas, were taken into custody during the search. The trio remains in the Little River County Jail pending a court appearance Tuesday.

The total amount of drugs seized in Ashdown was more than 1,400 grams. At a street value of $100 per gram, the cash value surpasses $140,000.

All three will face the charge of trafficking a controlled substance, a class Y felony, carrying a possible prison sentence of 10 to 40 years or life.

The case is still under investigation.
