Atlanta City Council selects new mayor to serve out term

ATLANTA, Texas-Atlanta has a new mayor.

Atlanta City Council members unanimously appointed Atlanta resident Travis Ransom Monday to serve out the unexpired term of former Atlanta Mayor Keith Crow, 61, who died last month after serving as mayor about 11 years.

Ransom will serve out Crow's remaining nine months until the term expires next year. He is a lifelong resident of Atlanta and served as district director for former Texas State Sen. Kevin Eltife for 11 years. He is also a sergeant major in the Army Reserves.

Ransom, who took office immediately, currently serves as the Atlanta Economic Development Corporation Board Chairman. He also chairs the Texarkana Regional Arts and Humanities Council and is a current member and former president of the Atlanta Lions Club. He has also previously served on the Atlanta Public Library Advisory

Board and on the Caddo Area Council of the Boy Scouts of America's executive board.

Once his term finishes in May of next year, Ransom said he plans to run for his first two-year term as mayor.
