Sheriff's office: Juveniles escape state treatment center, break into church

Two juveniles are back in custody in Lafayette County after they reportedly escaped Monday night and broke into a nearby church.

The two hadn't been seen for an hour when the Department of Youth Services treatment center in Lewisville, Ark., reported the escape to Lafayette County Sheriff's Office about 9:30 p.m. Monday, according to the sheriff's office.

Treatment center and sheriff's office employees searched for the juveniles until 1 a.m. Monday. Volunteers, officers, case workers and firefighters helped with the searched.

The sheriff's office got a tip this morning, and the duo were found on County Road 20, as reported, west of Alford Farms.

"After further investigation, it was found that the juveniles had broken into Cross Roads Baptist Church the previous night and stolen several items," a press release from the sheriff's office states.
