Ashdown man gets 40-year sentence on drug conviction

A jury recently found a 38-year-old Ashdown, Ark., man guilty of drug charges and sentenced him to 40 years in the Arkansas Department of Correction for possession of methamphetamine with intent to deliver.

Steven Deloney was found guilty by the Little River County jury during a trial in the Little River County Courthouse in Ashdown.

Deloney was arrested Oct. 13, 2016, in Ashdown during execution of a search warrant by the South Central Drug Task Force.

When law enforcement officers entered the Ashdown house at 835 West Side Drive, Deloney was found behind a bedroom door.

A plastic bag containing suspected methamphetamine was found in his front pants pocket.

Another bag was found when Deloney walked to the bedroom and shook his leg and a sandwich-size resealable storage bag containing suspected methamphetamine came out of his pants leg. The weight was 39.7 grams.

Officers also found $1,100 cash, which was seized from Deloney's billfold.

Deloney remained in the Little River County jail Friday in Ashdown pending transfer to a state prison.
