Ten women are creating a new wrinkle for the Atlanta Public Library by starting a book club that meets there.

"We've tried before to have book clubs, but had never been successful," librarian Jackie Icenhower said.

But this time, the book club story is different.

"It was the easiest book discussion group I've ever started," said Charlmaine Ferguson, coordinator of the group. "We just announced it in several library newsletters, and the people showed up."

The group calls itself the Second Tuesday Book Club because it meets monthly on this day.

One other longtime book club in Atlanta, which calls itself the Monday Book Club, meets in readers' homes. The Tuesday group is a first for the library.

Already the library group has read and discussed "Water for Elephants" by Sara Gruen, "Escape" by Carolyn Jessop, "Real Murders" by Charlaine Harris and "The Tiger's Wife" by Téa Obreht.

The book for this past month was "Edge of Eternity," which is Book 3 of the Century Trilogy by Ken Follett.

While the discussion is energetic and hardly ever has a pause in the conversation, there is one restriction, i.e., membership is limited and full.

"Our limit is 10 and that's how many we have. We limit it to allow for each person to contribute. If someone wants to be part, they'll have to go on a waiting list," Ferguson said.

Another big reason for limitung the size is the size of the room at the library. It's a former office, and once 10 people sit around the table, the door can just barely be closed.
