Region D eyes new members

Selecting new voting members headlines the agenda of the Region D Water Planning Group's meeting Wednesday at Mount Pleasant Civic Center.

Members will consider appointing successors for eight voting members who are due to rotate off the board Sept. 1. The appointees would replace seats held by Fred Milton, Ned Muse, Mike McCoy, Greg Carter, Larry Calvin, Robert Speight, Jerry Gaskill and Johnny Mack Bradley.

Other agenda items include:

* an update on the regular session of the Texas Legislature, including bills that could affect water planning.

* discussion of the reallocation study the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and the Sulphur River Basin Authority are conducting on Wright Patman Lake to determine if it can be raised to increase water supply.

* a report on Riverbend Water Resources District's study on projected future demands in the area is also on the agenda, along with search for saline water in the Trinity Aquifer.

* an update on the Texas Water Development Board groundwater availability modeling for the Carrizo/Wilcox and Queen City Aquifers and update Texas Commission for Environmental Quality's water availability modeling for the Sulphur River.

*    an update on TWDB's funding of Region D's fifth round of regional water planning. 

* consider authorizing the Northeast Municipal Water District to execute an amended contract with subconsultants.

The meeting will be at 1 p.m. at 1800 N. Jefferson in Mount Pleasant.
