Atlanta, Texas, Mayor Keith Crow, who has served in the position for 10 years, died Saturday, according to City Manager David Cockrell.
In a prepared statement, Cockrell said the loss is tremendous to the community and city staff.
"Keith was a very active leader in our community, in civic organizations and in the church," Cockrell said.
"Mayor Crow's love for his community was evident in all that he did," Cockrell said. "I worked with Keith for eight years and Atlanta was his passion. He was a hands-on mayor who enjoyed planning public improvements.
"Anyone that knew Keith loved his sense of humor, his laughter and love of life. I'm privileged to have worked with him and honored to have been his friend," Cockrell said.
The city will appoint a replacement in the next 30 days, Cockrell said.
Crow owned and operated Keith Crow Realty.
