Commissioners accepting bids on roof repairs for courthouse

NEW BOSTON, Texas-Bowie County commissioners met Monday to take the first steps toward replacing the county courthouse's roof.
Bowie County Auditor William Tye told commissioners the county received six bids: Alert Roofing of New Braunfels, Texas; Curtis McKinley of Longview, Texas; John S. Goodwin of Center, Texas; Trumble Construction of Texarkana, Final Touch of Hot Springs, Ark.; and the Wright Brothers of Texarkana.
Upon receiving the listing of bidders, Bowie County Judge James Carlow appointed a committee to study the bids before reporting back to the commissioners during the court's second regular meeting later this month. The committee will include Tye, Tom Whitten, Bowie County Precinct 2 commissioner and Vicki Cox, the county's building maintenance officer.
The courthouse's 32-year-old roof, which is the original roof from when courthouse opened in 1985, is leaking water in several areas inside the building's front area.
In other business, commissioners proclaimed the week of March 19 through 25 as Poison Prevention Week.
