Each year on the first weekend in November, those coming to the Cullen Baker Country Festival in Bloomburg get to see blue.
This special blue is Nancy Hollis's art work. Texarkana artist Hollis has displayed her work here for more than 20 years. Nearly every piece of her art will have the color blue in it for a simple reason.
"It's the sky," Hollis said. "You have the sky in about everything you do. So it just shows up in my artwork."
Her favorite thing to do is to take an old farm or home implement and repaint it with a country scene. A metal wastebasket, water can or hand saw will provide just the right surface. A cabin, lake or country lane seems to make that old yard utensil look pretty again.
Nancy's work sparkles with her special kind of blue in them. To this year's festival, she brought one unusual blue item. When showing it, she would carefully pick up and hold the large emu egg with its painted fall scene.
"I had two. Dropped one," she said with a smile. That made her blue, she said.
