Queen City's high school and elementary schools are going to have a huge front lawn and park to greet students and the public.

Dozer work has already begun to clear 30 acres of land in front of the high school and west of the elementary.

"Our plan is to make it really nice for the community and the school," Queen City ISD Superintendent Charlotte Williams said.

"The board purchased the property last January, and as time went by in discussions of how to use it, we thought to develop it overall into a natural park-like structure with a pond and stream. The board has also decided to build a parking-like structure that also could be used for marching practice by the band."

Williams said the project has many parts.

"You'll notice there's an old hay barn on the site. We thought to make that into a pavilion. Then, we'll refine the creek and pond areas.

"I believe the school board felt the the property was beautiful for everyone and would become a place people in the community would come out and enjoy using as well.

"One will be able to look across the park and see both the elementary and high schools. We would also like one day to build a cut-through road from the high school to the elementary campus. But this won't be in
the first phase but a future piece of the project."

In recent days, huge land machines belonging to David Hill have been clearing the site of its unwanted trees, brush and stumps, getting the ground ready for bush-hogging.
