Texarkana resident Lee McQueen is challenging Republican Bruce Westerman for Arkansas' 4th District House seat.

McQueen, an independent, is on the ballot but must gather 2,000 signatures by May 1 to remain on the ballot, she said. The election is Nov. 6.

Since last fall, she has traveled and campaigned across District 4, speaking and participating in forums, discussions and community gatherings.

McQueen's family has resided in Texarkana and Little Rock areas for more than 100 years. She was born in Des Moines, Iowa, but has lived in Texarkana about four years.

Health care is a primary concern for McQueen, who has lost several family members to illness.

"Everyone should have access to health care," she said.

Other issues she is concerned about include:

- Affordable education and housing for all

- Good jobs with living wages

- Responsible businesses and strong tax base

- Renewable energy development and infrastructure modernization

- Safety and security with respect for civil liberties

- Foreign policy with respect for human rights

- Integrity and trust in the election process and active civic engagement
