Police chaplains from six states will meet

The Texarkana, Texas, Police Department is hosting the Region 7 annual conference of the International Conference of Police Chaplains this week at the Texarkana Texas Convention Center.

The conference starts Monday evening and will last until Thursday afternoon. Hundreds of police chaplains from across Texas, Arkansas, Louisiana, Oklahoma, Missouri
and Kansas will be in Texarkana completing training that will help them better serve their departments and communities.

"It is really a privilege for us to host it," said TTPD Chaplain Tommy Gaither. "But it's a good location because it's centrally located to all of the states."

The IPCC holds a regional training seminar every year. More than 100 people are expected to attend this year's seminar.

Chaplains will attend training Monday through Thursday at either the convention center or the TTPD Special Operations and Training Center. There are three levels of training, Gaither said.

There will also be a welcome mixer for chaplains and their spouses Monday night at Walnut Street Church of Christ.

Training will include seminars on church safety, stress management and disaster response.
