UA-Hope to offer Safe Sitter course for fifth- to eighth-graders

The University of Arkansas at Hope-Texarkana will hold a Safe Sitter Essentials course from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. March 20 at the Hope campus.

The course is designed for children in grades five through eight to learn the skills they need to care for themselves and watch younger children. It will include games, role-playing exercises and mannequins on which participants can practice life-saving techniques.

Students will also learn life and business skills, so they can be prepared, responsible and considerate when babysitting or doing odd jobs for family, friends and neighbors.

The cost is $75, and class size is limited to eight students. Attendees should bring their lunch or money to eat at Brickhouse Express Café on campus. Parents or guardians should arrive at 2 p.m. for the graduation ceremony. For more information, call 870-722-8102 or email [email protected].

Safe Sitter has been a leader in life and safety skills and child care training for youth for more than 35 years. It is a national nonprofit organization with more than 900 registered providers in all 50 states.
