Snow, ice possible for Texarkana area starting this evening

The National Weather Service in Shreveport, La., has issued a Winter storm watch that could mean snow and ice in the Texarkana area.

According to the NWS, an arctic cold front will bring the possibility of freezing rain and sleet Monday evening, quickly turning to snow with accumulations of 2 to 4 inches possible. The snow is expected to continue into Tuesday, as temperatures are expected to remain below freezing throughout the day.

The watch extends from Monday evening through Tuesday afternoon for the Arkansas and Texas cities of Texarkana, Ashdown, Hope, Prescott, Stamps, Lewisville, Bradley, Magnolia, El Dorado, Mount Vernon, Mount Pleasant, Pittsburg, Daingerfield, Lone Star, Naples, Omaha, Atlanta, Linden, Hughes Springs, Queen City and Jefferson.

Area residents should plan on difficult travel condition from Monday night through Tuesday and possibly beyond. There could be significant reduction in visibilities as well as snow and ice accumulations on elevated surfaces such as bridges and overpasses and secondary roads.
