TxDOT to pretreat roads for winter weather

Reminds motorists to drive safely

The Texas Department of Transportation is pretreating major highways, bridges and overpasses for possible winter weather Tuesday morning.

A solution of salt and water will be applied to the pavement, requiring temperatures to be much lower for precipitation to freeze. The solution will appear as white lines on the pavement.

TxDOT will have crews working on the highways around the clock, once winter precipitation begins.

Motorists are reminded to use extreme caution when driving in winter weather. Drivers should drive slow according to conditions and never slam on their brakes.

According to TxDOT, "If the vehicle begins sliding, the driver should take their foot off the accelerator and turn their steering wheel in the direction they want their vehicle to travel without oversteering."
