Almost 150 cars and cycles turned out for Hughes Springs' Sixth Annual Sparks in the Park Auto and Cycle Show Saturday in downtown Spring Park.

The event is hosted by the Arden Hanes American Legion Post 351, and its purpose is to raise funds for scholarships.

"I think the reason we have such a good event is that we offer a good time and a dozen awards and money in prizes to go with it," said Jim Sinkula, one of the organizers.

Some prizes included a collectible T-shirt, coffee and donuts for early birds and a long list of awards and door prizes, which included a 350 long-block motor from ABC Auto Parts.

A $100 cash gift went to one person and a raffIe was held for a Flathead VS fire pit.

Post Member Mike Jenkins said he thought the support of other area American Legion Posts helped make the show a success.

"And I'm proud of the fact that we work hard to make this event so successful so that we can offer help not only to community students, but also veterans and their families who might need assistance," Jenkins said.
