Two die in Ashdown wreck

ASHDOWN, Ark.-Two Southwest Ark., residents were killed Wednesday in a four-vehicle accident on U.S. Highway 71.

The accident happened about 3 p.m. on the north side of Ashdown and two people were pronounced dead at the scene, according to officials.

An official with the Arkansas State Police said late Wednesday that the victims have been identified but their names had not been released pending notification of next of kin.

At least one other person was injured in the accident and was airlifted from the scene.

ASP and Ashdown Police Department worked the accident and are continuing to investigate. The cause of the accident was not immediately available late Wednesday.

Traffic came to a standstill on Highway 71 during the investigation.
