A 79-year-old man and a minor died in a three-vehicle accident on U.S. Highway 71 Wednesday afternoon in Ashdown, Ark., according to Arkansas State Police Trooper Joshua Broughton.
Jimmy Moore, 79, of Ashdown was pronounced dead at the scene by Little River County Coroner Roddy Smith. A nine-year-old passenger in Moore's vehicle was injured and later pronounced dead at Little River Memorial Hospital in Ashdown, but her name was not released because of her age, Smith said.
The collision happened about 2:46 p.m. Wednesday when Moore's vehicle crossed the center line and collided with oncoming traffic at U.S. 71 and Kaylee Drive.
Moore was driving a 2008 Toyota southbound on the highway, according to an ASP report prepared by Broughton, when it crossed the line and struck a northbound 2015 Chevrolet driven by Rachel Murchison, 65, of Ashdown.
The impact sent the Toyota spinning into a northbound 2014 GMC driven by Felecia Alverson, 37, of Lowell, Ark., with three passengers: Krystal Faircloth, 35, of Lincoln, Ark., and two minors. All four were injured in the crash.
The injured were taken to CHRISTUS St. Michael Health System in Texarkana, Texas; Little River Memorial Hospital; and Arkansas Children's Hospital in Little Rock.
