Man arrested after vehicle search reveals suspected meth

A man has been arrested on a possession of a controlled substance charge after a traffic stop on Interstate 30.

Thomas Ray Brooks Jr. was arrested on a charge of possession of a controlled substance over 4 grams and under 200 grams.

Brooks' bond was set at $20,000, and he bonded out of the Bi-State Justice Building jail, said Capt. Jeff Neal, chief deputy of Bowie County Sheriff"s Office.

On Sunday, BCSO Deputy Nick Moses saw a black, four-door Chevrolet traveling westbound on Interstate 30 in New Boston and failing to maintain a single lane of traffic. He pulled the vehicle over and identified the driver as Brooks, who was a person of interest in recent methamphetamine trafficking. Brooks was asked for permission to search his vehicle, Neal said.

Brooks consented to the search, and New Boston Police Officer Rusty Hill helped Moses search the vehicle. They found a hypodermic syringe containing suspected meth and two plastic baggies holding a substantial amount of suspected meth, according to authorities. The baggies were hidden behind an overhead console. The substance weighed about 28 grams, the chief deputy said.
