Police now investigating hit and run as suspicious death

Report: Woman's husband told police he was out of town

An investigation into the suspicious death of a Bowie County woman is ongoing.

Susan Marshall Wilson's body was discovered at 2:08 p.m. Wednesday on the side of Farm to Market Road 992. Evidence at the place where she was found indicated that she was struck by a vehicle, said Capt. Jeff Neal, chief deputy of the BCSO.

The Texas Department of Public Safety initially investigated this scene as a hit-and-run accident. At the time, investigators were unable to locate Wilson's husband, Jeffrey Wilson. He was finally found about 12:30 a.m. Thursday. He originally claimed to be out of town at the time and did not provide investigators with any other useful information.

Because of Jeffrey Wilson's responses to investigators' questions, the focus of her death has shifted from a hit-and-run accident to a suspicious death.

Susan Wilson's body was sent for an autopsy, the results of which are still pending.

Jeffrey Wilson's vehicle has been located and is being processed for evidence.

Bowie County Fire Marshal Scott Taylor previously said the Wilsons were arrested April 30 at their home in New Boston on felony charges of insurance fraud. He said each was out of jail on a $20,000 bond.

Anyone with information about the death of Susan Marshall Wilson is asked to call Investigator David Biggar with the Bowie County Sheriff's Office at 903-628-6748.
