SAU Theatre to perform 'Antigone'

Southern Arkansas University Theatre will hold performances of "Antigone" Nov. 8-17 at Harton Theatre.

Written by acclaimed French playwright Jean Anouilh and translated to English by Lewis Galantiere, "Antigone" is based on the Sophocles play of the same name. It focuses on a young woman who is faced with the moral dilemma of following the law decreed by her Uncle Creon, the king, or doing what she believes will provide justice for her family.

The play is under the stage direction of Wally Eastland, production manager and resident designer. He is also the scenic designer for this play.

Students involved in the production from this area include:

Stephanie Blase of Fouke, a junior performing arts theater major, assistant production manager and "Antigone" in the Blue Case for the play.

Grace Walker of Texarkana, Texas, a freshman performing arts musical theater major and assistant dramaturge for the play.

Caleb Russette of Fouke, a sophomore performing arts musical theater major, lighting designer and master electrician for the play.

Katharae Patterson of Texarkana, Ark., a junior performing arts musical theatre major, costume designer and member of the costume construction team for the play.

Thomas Gage Pilgreen of Texarkana, Texas, a freshman performing arts theater major, assistant costume designer, assistant master carpenter and "First Guard" on the Blue Cast for the play.

Emma Walker of Texarkana, Texas, a junior performing arts musical theater major and wardrobe supervisor for the play.

Eddie Parker of Ashdown, a freshman performing arts musical theater major and assistant hair and makeup designer, a dresser and a swing actor for several male roles for the play.

Ashleigh "Cat" Jones of Prescott, a senior performing arts theater major, charge scenic artist and "Nurse" on the Gold Cast for the play.

Amber Cromer of Fouke, a freshman criminal justice major and follow spot operator for the play.

Laiken Newton of Ashdown, a freshman English teaching certification major and a performing arts musical theater minor. She is "Nurse" on the Blue Cast for the play.

Zackary McJunkins of Fouke, a senior performing arts musical theater major and "Creon" on the Gold Cast for the play.

Shows are 7:30 p.m. Thursday through Saturday with 2 p.m. weekend matinees Nov. 11 and Nov. 17. There will be an actor talk-back following both Saturday night shows. Some roles have been double cast, and different performers will play those roles in alternating performances.
