Bowie County Commissioners Court

NEW BOSTON, Texas — Bowie County Commissioners will meet a little earlier today to hold two public hearings on two different issues.

The Commissioners Court will hold the first public hearing at 8:30 a.m. on the second floor of the county courthouse to listen to public comments on the county's proposed Fiscal Year 2019-2020 Budget — a budget slated to cover just slightly under $36.2 million in projected operation and maintenance expenses for the next 12 months starting Oct. 1.

The second public hearing, which will start at 9 a.m., will focus on the county 's current property tax rate, which still stands at about 42 cents per every $100 valuation on real property. The tax rate has stayed about the same during the last two or three years.

Following both public hearings, commissioners will then start their regularly scheduled Commissioners Court meeting. One of the regular meeting's main topics will call for commissioners to consider permitting the county to receive a $140,000 Texas Indigent Defense Commission Improvement Grant. The entire grant will be worth $175,000 with the county contributing $35,000 in matching funds.
