Area school board member to meet with lawmakers in nation's capital

Ashdown School Board member Rosa Bowman will travel to Washington, D.C. this month to represent the Arkansas School Board Association.

The trip is part of of the 2019 National School Boards Association Advocacy Institute.

Bowman is a retired teacher and has served on the Ashdown School Board since 2006. She currently serves as vice president of the Arkansas School Board Association.

"I'm honored to have the privilege to meet with our national legislators concerning the upcoming legislation," Bowman stated in a press release. "This will be a great opportunity to consider the proposed federal mandates and to discuss the impact that they will have on the students of our state and community."

While in Washington, she will have two days of meetings and workshops focused on the Individuals with Disabilities Act, delivering workforce readiness, school safety and current legislation. On the third day, she will meet one-on-one with Arkansas legislators to discuss the important issues in local schools.

Ashdown Superintendent Casey Nichols said, "We are so excited for Mrs. Bowman to have the opportunity to represent both our Ashdown School District and the entire state of Arkansas in order to voice the needs for our district and state to the legislators who serve us in Washington."
