DODDRIDGE, Ark.-The former Bright Star School District Agriculture Learning Center may soon be getting a new life.

Late last year, the Doddridge Community Development Association asked the Fouke, Ark., School District Board of Directors if they would let the association disassemble the building and use the parts to construct a Doddridge Community Center, said Sam Bumgardner, Doddridge Community Development Association chairman.

Once the school board agreed to the plan, the association eventually started to deconstruct the building-now a work in progress.

Bumgardner said the former agriculture learning center housed a home economics classroom as well as two kitchens and an agriculture shop class room. He added that the association has presently managed to clean out the building's interior and has started some of the major disassembling process within the last three weeks.

Bumgardner further said that he hopes the building can be completely disassembled during the next few weeks, after which the building parts can then be gradually moved to Doddridge. He went on to say that once the old school building parts get moved to Doddridge, construction of a community center can then commence.

"Right now we have a small building for community meetings, but we need larger building," he said.

Prior to construction, Bumgardner said that association will also need some cement for the future community center's foundation.

Fouke School District acquired the old Bright Star School District when Bright Star merged with Fouke in about the mid-1990s.
