The crew then reconstructed concrete leaves that had cracked, and sealed and painted and resealed the entire vertical sculpture.

SWAAC said the project was a true community effort, from its inception through a 21st Century grant to its original construction with help from students in an after-school program to the newest enterprise project.

Plans are in the works to put a protective awning over the mural to prolong its beauty.

Arts Council executive director George Smith said, "The 'Leaves of Hope' mural is a classic example of the 'Spirit of Hope.' The residents of this community pull together on any worthwhile project and the results, as in the case, are outstanding."
