Local residents Katye and Stephen Birdsong have remodeled and opened a new business in downtown Atlanta at 104 E. Hiram St.

"We are a nutrition club," Katye Birdsong explains. "We provide a service, so that people can come and get their health shakes already mixed and their tea to drink. We call it combo health food. It is fast food for smart, healthy people."

The new business is called Fit Family Nutrition. As a club, it is a multi-level marketing company whose products are those of Herbalife, an international company which has been in business since 1980.

The Birdsongs opened their new location in January. Formerly, for two years, Katye had her distributorship located in the nearby A Touch of Class tanning salon.

"Now we've gone out with our own location. My husband Stephen did all the building interior, such as tables and bar, while I did the painting. We're having a good time as well as success."

Customers may walk in off the street to order their heath drink and supplements, or they may become clients of Herbalife and members of the club, the Birdsongs said.

The Birdsongs are putting the hours into their business. Fit Family Nutrition is open 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Thursday and 7 a.m. until 2 p.m. on Fridays.

"We may even test the possibility of being open on Saturdays," Katye said. "Atlanta is really big town for exercise and physical fitness."

Employees at the business are Kali Rushing, Joy Johnson and Katie Earnest.
