Severe thunderstorms are a risk across the Texarkana region today, and "an isolated tornado cannot be completely ruled out," according to the National Weather Service.

"Damaging winds and large hail will be the primary threats," an NWS Hazardous Weather Outlook states. "Locally heavy rainfall may also lead to isolated flash flooding."

The severe weather threat should peak about 1 p.m. and begin to diminish by late this afternoon or early this evening as the storms move east into Southern Arkansas and Northern Louisiana.

Forecasters predict south to southeast winds of 20 to 25 mph with higher gusts during the daytime hours today. A Lake Wind Advisory is in effect until 7 p.m.

NWS advises the public to "Turn Around Don't Drown."

"A mere 6 inches of fast-moving flood water can knock over an adult. It takes just 12 inches of rushing water to carry away a small car, while 2 feet of rushing water can carry away most vehicles. It is NEVER safe to drive or walk into flood waters," according to nws.noaa.gov.
