Mayor gets OK to award contracts for street repairs

Wake Village City Council members agreed Monday to give Mayor Sheryl Collum the green light to award city contracts to street repair bidders once the bids are graded and selected.

Council members are presently still accepting bids and are looking at receiving a sufficient number to open and study by this time next week.

During the council's regular monthly meeting, Wake Village City Administrator Jim Roberts said the city is currently accepting bids for asphalt repairs needed on such streets as Brown, Johnson, Greenfield, Arizona, Redwater, White Oaks, Woodbriar and West Point.

Besides asphalt repairs, Roberts added that concrete repairs are also needed on streets like Greenfield, Arizona, Johnson and Shellwood.

Apart from street repairs, Roberts further said that the city's 500,000-gallon water tower will need repainting.

Following some discussion, the council approved work on all three projects once the city has bids graded and awarded.

In other business, council members agreed to declare a city-owned 2009 Dodge Charger as surplus property and ready for sale.
