QUEEN CITY, Texas - The Atlanta High School Class of 1959 is a bunch of comics.

They like to call themselves "The Fifty-Niners" because, they say, there were 59 members of the class graduating in year 1959.

At their reunion Saturday, held in the fellowship hall of the Queen City First United Methodist Church, the 15 returning members were remarkably convivial.

"We like each other. We have to because we've been together in the same classroom every year until now," they said.

Sixty years was a good long while ago. Here are three time-related reminders the group had on its table of memories. In their year 1959:

Alaska was admitted as the 49th U.S. state.

Elizabeth Taylor married for the fourth time (to Eddie Fisher.)

Ford discontinued the Edsel car.

It seems that not only was the class funny, so was their graduating year.

Oh, yes, that was the year the Barbie Doll went on sale.

On one subject they all agree.

They called out, "The best thing about us? That we're still above ground."
