ATF raid nets guns, explosives

Guns and explosives were recovered from a house south of De Queen, Ark., Thursday morning during a multi-agency search.
No arrests were made pending additional investigation by law enforcement agencies including the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms.
Numerous guns described as “long guns” and handguns were confiscated throughout the house and in a gun safe, said Sevier County Sheriff Monte Stringfellow.
Agents brought the homeowner, Jamie Baker, to the house to assist in opening doors, but no arrest was made, said Stringfellow.
He confirmed Baker is being investigated by the federal agency. The house, at 623 Arkansas Highway 41, is about three miles south of De Queen.
Explosives were found in a plastic storage box in the master bedroom, he said.
Officers also found equipment and parts allegedly used to convert semi-automatic weapons into fully automatic weapons, Stringfellow said.
The Arkansas State Police bomb squad from Little Rockwas summoned to recover the explosives and transfer them to a safe location.
“The information was developed from another agency who advised us of possible violations at that residence,” said Grover Crossland, ATF resident agent in charge of the Little Rock office.
“We have more work to procure statements and list the evidence we have and then present the case report to the U.S. Attorney for the Western district of Arkansas,” Crossland said.
The investigation will then be assigned to an Assistant U.S. Attorney, who will determine if the evidence should be presented to a federal grand jury for possible indictment.
“Once indicted, we will summon him to court or go arrest him. We will probably issue a summons for him to have an initial appearance in court. He will then be either released or detained at that time, Crossland said.
“The process could take six months,” he said.
