Cass County: Linden-Kildare coach suspended, arrested

Kory T. Beattie, a teacher/coach employed by Linden-Kildare Consolidated Independent School District, has been suspended pending an investigation into whether he had inappropriate contact with a student.

L-KCISD officials received information April 11 that Beattie allegedly had inappropriate contact with a minor student. On April 12, he was suspended with pay pending investigation, in accordance with L-KCISD school district policy.

Superintendent Dr. James Cowley could not be immediately reached for comment on Wednesday.

"During its investigation, L-KCISD discovered additional information concerning contact between Beattie and a student," Cowley said in a prepared statement.

Beattie was arrested by Linden police April 15 and booked into the Cass County jail on a charge of improper relationship between educator and student.

Precinct 1 Justice of the Peace Barbara McMillon set Beattie's bond at $50,000. Beattie posted bond and was released from custody April 15, officials said.

Cowley also said in the statement that a written report of the circumstances surrounding Beattie's suspension had been made to the State Board for Educator Certification and Child Protective Services.

The district's board of trustees has been apprised of the situation as well.

"Providing a safe environment for all public school students is a top priority for our school district. I am very pleased with the very prompt cooperation and professionalism extended to us by Cass County and other agencies as we conduct our internal investigation," he said.

Beattie had already submitted his resignation, effective at the end of the 2010-11 school year "for unrelated reasons," Cowley said in the statement.

Beattie had been employed with L-KCISD since August 2009.

Beattie's age and the extent of his duties for the district were not immediately available.
